Rear window: Italian swimmer Flavia Zoccari's skinsuit splits open during the Mediterranean Games in Pescara, Italy, yesterday

It’s the wardrobe malfunction to end them all.

Italian Olympic swimmer Flavia Zoccari was forced to sit out a championship race at the Mediterranean Games yesterday after her bathing costume burst open in a very unfortunate place.

Flavia, 22, was wearing the controversial £318 top-of-the-line Jaked J01 swimsuit when disaster struck at the Games in Pescara, Italy..

She burst into tears as she was forced to stand down from her race.

Jaked boasts that the full-body swimsuit – complete with back hinge – is ‘more than skin’.

However the aerodynamic costume has been the subject of controversy after it was banned by FINA (the International Swimming Federation) earlier this year because it gave swimmers wearing it an unfair advantage.

FINA lifted the ban on the swimsuit a month later, in June of this year, after Jaked, which sponsors the Italian national swim team, protested the ban.

Zoccari – who is nearly six feet tall – later apologised for the embarrassing incident.

Oz Lotto jackpot fever sweeps the nation

Odds on ... how your chances of a lotto win stack up. But if you dont enter, your chance slips to zero.

Odds on ... how your chances of a lotto win stack up. But if you don't enter, your chance slips to zero.

TWO lucky people have shared the biggest Tattslotto draw in Australian history.

Tattslotto said the two winners were from Queensland and South Australia.

Unprecedented demand for tickets blew this week’s first division total to more than $106 million – more than $16 million more than the expected $90 million first division prize pool, the Herald Sun reports.

The lucky numbers drawn were: 12, 3, 38, 21, 23, 29, 40 and supplementary numbers 43 and 22.

Tattersalls had guaranteed a minimum first division prize pool of $90 million, but spokeswoman Karen Anning said huge sales today had pushed the prize pool higher.

Queues formed outside many Oz Lotto agents yesterday and the lines of fortune hunters grew even longer today.

Many newsagents stayed open an hour later than usual tonight to handle the rush, but were required by law to shut shop at 7.30pm.

“Nationally we have had 10 million entries, close to three million in Victoria and two million in Queensland,” Ms Anning said.

“We are receiving approximately 200,000 entries an hour in Victoria.”

NSW Lotteries Communications Manager John Vineburg said it was predicted that half of the adult population would have bought a ticket in tonight’s draw.

The Oz Lotto jackpot soared to a record $90 million after there were no first division winners in the June 23 draw.

Earlier, Tattersall’s Lotteries chief executive Bill Thorburn said if the final sum topped $90 million, it will be added to the prize money.

“We are now in unprecedented territory, with Australians wholeheartedly embracing the country’s biggest lotto draw,” he said.

“We’ve guaranteed a minimum $90 million first division jackpot, but there’s a chance it could go even higher depending on player participation.”

Mr Thorburn said it was odds-on at least one lucky Australian would see their numbers come up.

Mathematicians said the odds of winning are one in 45 million and, aside from buying more entries, there is no way of tipping the odds in your favour.

“To put it in perspective, people around age 20 are 20,000 times more likely to die this year than to win the lotto,” maths professor Peter Adam said.

No matter which punter or punters claims the record prize from the 10 million Australians who have bought a ticket so far, the unprecedented jackpot will delivering a windfall of more than $26 million to the Government’s coffers.

And now the pressure is on for the Government to actually spend its windfall, rather than let the money plug part of its Budget black hole.

The Opposition wants it invested in vital cancer-treating radiotherapy machines. The Greens have demanded it be used to boost the number of dental clinicians by funding more student positions at the University of Queensland’s faculty of dentistry.

But youth worker Father Chris Riley wants the Government to take a punt and invest in charities.

“That money needs to go back into the community where it came from,” he said.

“They should target the charities that deal with gambling and the effects on their families or just use it to help the charities that are struggling.

“There are quite a few that will go to the wall soon if they’re not helped out because the amount of donations are down by a quarter.”

‘Transformers’: Worst-reviewed $400 million hit? (AP)

Posted by mango | Posted in Entertainment, Movies, News | Posted on 02-07-2009

LOS ANGELES – After just five days, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” is halfway to $400 million domestically, a box-office milestone only eight other movies have reached. If it climbs that high, the “Transformers” sequel will be by far the worst-reviewed movie ever to make the $400 million club.

Critics and mainstream crowds often disagree, but “Revenge of the Fallen” sets a new standard for the gulf between what reviewers and mass audiences like.

The movie pulled in $201.2 million since opening Wednesday, the second-best result for a movie in its first five days, just behind “The Dark Knight” with $203.8 million. Even after its whopping $60.6 million opening day, “Revenge of the Fallen” was packing theaters, a sign that unlike critics, who mostly hated the movie, audiences felt they were getting their money’s worth and were giving the flick good word of mouth.

Critics “forget what the goal of the movie was. The goal of the movie is to entertain and have fun,” said Rob Moore, vice chairman of Paramount, which is distributing “Transformers” for DreamWorks. “What the audience tells us is, `We couldn’t be more entertained and having more fun.’ They kind of roll their eyes at the critics and say, `You have no idea what you’re talking about.’”

According to Paramount’s exit polls, 91 percent of the audience thought the sequel was as good as or better than the first “Transformers,” which received far better reviews.

Most of Hollywood’s all-time biggest hits are accompanied by either good or at least passable reviews, and some can be among the year’s most-acclaimed, such as this year’s “Up” and “Star Trek” and last year’s “The Dark Knight,” “WALL-E” and “Iron Man.”

Not so for the new “Transformers.” On Rottentomatoes.com , a Web site that compiles critics’ opinions, the sequel had only 38 positive reviews out of 187, a lowly 20 percent rating usually reserved for box-office duds.

Many critics who liked the movie had reservations, praising the movie’s visual effects and relentless action but generally advising audiences to check their brains at the door.

The critical drubbing was a new low for “Transformers” director Michael Bay, never a favorite among professional movie reviewers. But he has long been a favorite among fans, scoring hits with the first “Transformers” and such flicks as “Armageddon,” “Pearl Harbor,” “Bad Boys II” and “The Rock.”

Like blockbuster maestro Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced many of Bay’s movies, the director aims to please audiences, not critics.

“He really had blinders on when it comes to what he believed the picture needs to be, and then he executed it,” said Brad Grey, Paramount chairman and chief executive officer. “He’s a director who is the definition of blockbuster at this point. His grosses speak for themselves.”

Bay’s previous worst score on Rottentomatoes was 23 percent for “Bad Boys II,” followed by 25 percent for “Pearl Harbor.” Even his commercial flop “The Island” rated well above the “Transformers” sequel, with 40 percent positive reviews.

Of the eight movies that have grossed more than $400 million domestically, four scored 90 percent or higher on Rottentomatoes: “The Dark Knight,” “Spider-Man,” “E.T. the Extra-terrestrial” and “Star Wars.” Two others, “Shrek 2″ and “Titanic,” topped 80 percent.

The other two had mixed reviews but still came in far higher than “Revenge of the Fallen,” with “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” scoring 63 percent and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” rating 53 percent.

This year’s biggest hits so far had terrific scores, “Up” with 97 percent and “Star Trek” with 95 percent. Both movies have grossed about $250 million, a number the “Transformers” sequel will soar past by next weekend.

On Metacritic.com, a site that assigns ratings of zero to 100 based on movie reviews, “Revenge of the Fallen” received a 36, a lowly score barely above those given to recent box-office duds “Year One” and “Land of the Lost.”

Biggest Millionaire Flops

Posted by mango | Posted in Information | Posted on 21-06-2009

If you lost money, you’re not alone, but at least you can put some blame on the market. Major errors of judgment have cost some of the world’s richest people more than just a pretty penny – and these are people who have a lot to lose. Console yourself with these famous financial flops.

1. Two Rocks and a (Could Have Been) $17 Billion Family Legacy

In 1883, Dr. William Howey went to check on crews building the Canadian Pacific Railway. While searching for a lost worker, he found some interesting copper-colored rocks and pocketed them. Upon returning home he sent them to the director of the Geological Survey of Canada. The verdict? The stones were deemed worthless, and Howey threw them away.

A contractor picked them up, and a year later decided to check out the site where they were found. It turned out those “rocks” were copper and the contractor – Thomas Murray – had discovered one of the world’s largest copper deposit, producing millions of dollars of ore. When it was discovered the ore contained high levels of highly sought-after nickel, the deposit was named the International Nickel Company of Canada, and went on to become the second-largest producer of nickel worldwide. In 2006, Vale (NYSE: VALE) (previously CVRD) bought the company (named INCO) for $17 billion. Talk about a rock-solid investment!

2. A $75 Million Marital Mistake

Madonna may have a knack for putting out hit records, but her most recent divorce to film director Guy Ritchie will hit the “material girl” where it really counts – the wallet. Why? No prenuptial agreement. The 25-time gold record winner will pay her ex-better half $75 million as part of their divorce settlement. That equates to just a little less than $10 million for each year of their eight-year marriage. Don’t feel too bad for the pop and rock icon, however – she’s still worth more than $400 million.

3. A $54 Million Hand-Motion Markdown

Vegas casino owner and art collector Steve Wynn was entertaining a small group of friends in the fall of 2006 when he decided to show them his prized Picasso “Le Reve,” (”The Dream”). He had recently agreed to sell the piece for $139 million to fellow collector and hedge fund director Steve Cohen. But Wynn’s “dream” turned into a nightmare when, with one seemingly harmless hand motion while hosting a party at his home, he put his elbow through the famous painting of Picasso’s mistress. The shocked guests vowed to keep silent about the incident and Wynn later chose to keep the painting; it was restored but dropped in value to $85 million. It cost Wynn $90,000 for restoration work.

4. Stop That $4 Million Cab!

Grammy-award-winning Russian violinist Philippe Quint will always double-check before stepping out of a cab. In 2008, he left a $4 million 1723 Antonio Stardivari violin in the back of a taxi after a ride home from Newark Airport. There are fewer than 700 of the handmade, highly-prized instruments worldwide.

Six frantic hours after reporting the loss, Quint got a call from the port authority that driver Mohamad Khalil had returned to the station with his instrument. When the two met, Quint fell to his knees in thanks; to demonstrate the depth of his gratitude Quint later treated Khalil and 200 of his cabbie-driving comrades to a 30-minute private concert at the airport. But although Quint managed to come out of his million-dollar ordeal without parting with a penny, Quint’s orchestral peer David Garrett wasn’t so lucky. The world-class musician tripped at the end of a concert and landed on his 290 year-old Stradivari violin, destroying the priceless instrument.

5. What?! Call That $2 Million Foul, Ref!

Wimbledon champion and TV commentator John McEnroe wouldn’t let an opponent get away with anything on the tennis court, but a high-flying rare art salesman got away with $2 million of McEnroe’s fortune. Lawrence Salander, a New York art dealer, defrauded McEnroe through an elaborate scam by selling him half-shares in painter Arshile Gorky’s pieces “Pirate I” and “Pirate II.” One slight detail the dealer forgot to divulge: he didn’t own the paintings.

6. The $1.5 Million Ferrari Fiasco

Actor Eddie Griffin had the best of intentions when he signed up to drive a race car for a charity benefit and to promote his 2007 movie “Redline,” in the process. Eager to show off his driving prowess, he slid behind the wheel of a $1.5 million Enzo Ferrari – one of only 400 produced worldwide. Just moments after taking the wheel, Griffin took a corner a little too tight, clipped a cone and locked the wheels of the prized car, slamming it into a concrete barrier. Although he walked away unharmed, the rare car was declared a total loss.

Could it get any worse? Actually, yes. The car was owned by Griffin’s boss, “Redline” executive producer Daniel Sadek.

The next time portfolio losses have you down, just be glad that you can blame some of your woes on the market, rather than your own poor judgment. These millionaires’ financial flops prove they haven’t been nearly so lucky.

KANGAR: While the birth certificate of 10-month-old Muhammad Nabil Mustaqim Rodzake states that he is male, he lacks a penis.

When he was born without the male organ last Aug 10 at the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital, he was subjected to a DNA test which confirmed he had more male characteristics.

Nabil Mustaqim was also born without a right thumb, right ear and proper eyelids.

His mother, Zatul Bazamah Abd Rahman, is now seeking help from medical specialists to fix the problem.

Zatul Bazamah, 26, said:

“We are sad to think that he will grow up without the male organ, and the emotional stress that awaits him.”

The baby – the second child in the family – is now receiving treatment at the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital and Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star.

“We have been told that our son needs to wait a little longer for suitable treatment for his genitals while his other physical defects could be fixed with plastic surgery when he is four years old,” said Zatul Bazamah at the family home in Kampung Batu Lima near here.

The baby’s father, Rodzake Namis, 34, hoped the treatment could be carried out as soon as possible. — Bernama

Do you believe in Final Destination?

Posted by mango | Posted in News | Posted on 12-06-2009

Do you believe that if a person managed to cheat death once, he can survive for long? Personally I thought once you have cheated death, you should be able to live long enough. But reading the news below cast some doubt over my thought. This news reminds me of the movie called The Final Destination. What do you think?

A woman who dodged death when she and her husband narrowly missed Air France Flight 447 before it plunged into the Atlantic Ocean, killing all 228 aboard, was killed in a car accident just over a week later.

Johanna Ganthaler a retiree from the Bolzano-Bozen province, was on vacation in Brazil with her husband Kurt when the pair miraculously missed the doomed flight to Paris. But their luck ran out on an Austrian road earlier this week when their car swerved into the path of an oncoming truck outside the town of Kufstein, the Times (U.K.) reported.

Kurt Ganthaler was badly hurt in the accident.

Flight 447 disappeared from radar shortly after leaving Rio de Janeiro and is believed to have broken apart shortly after it left the airport in Brazil on May 31 with 228 people on board.

Some three dozen bodies have been fished out of the ocean where the Airbus jet plunged into the water. A nuclear-powered French submarine has begun scouring the seafloor for any sign of the black box, which could hold the key to determining what felled the plane.

The Ganthalers flew out of the country on a flight the day after the jet went missing.

I haven’t got the chance yet to watch this movie in cinema due to my upcoming exam and it is not shown yet in cinema here. But Lynks has released a very decent copy for this movie. The audio seems perfect and in sync, the video quality is watchable, quite good I would say. Back to the movie, from what I read from the review, it is quite creepy and if you have a weak heart, don’t watch it! :P Screenshots attached as below for your reference.

Man Utd accept Real Madrid’s £80m Ronaldo bid

Cristiano Ronaldos last game for United was the Champions League final defeat to Barca

Cristiano Ronaldo's last game for United was the Champions League final defeat to Barca

Personally, I think it is a good think for Ronaldo to leave as Man Utd is in serious debt now, about £700m.  Man Utd desperately need the money so I guess they have to sell Ronaldo to Real Madrid. Can Man Utd survive without Ronaldo? It will be answered next season whether he will be deeply missed. But from the past history, superstar players such as Roy Keane, David Beckham, Paul Ince and etc left Man Utd after a bust up with Ferguson but still the club managed to move on and be successful without them. Let’s see how it goes next season. ;) Below is the news about the saga if you haven’t read about it yet. Comments are welcomed.

Manchester United have accepted an £80m ($131.6m or €93.9m) offer from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo. A statement on the United website confirmed that a deal for the 24-year-old should be completed by the end of the month.

”Manchester United have received a world-record, unconditional offer of £80m for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.

”At Cristiano’s request – who has again expressed his desire to leave – and after discussion with the player’s representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player.

”Matters are expected to be concluded by June 30. The club will not comment until further notice.”

Ronaldo has long been a target for the Spanish giants, whose president Florentino Perez vowed earlier this week to do ”everything possible” to take the forward to the Bernabeu. The club now hope to agree personal terms with Ronaldo in the next few days.

It is now certain that a second era of galacticos has begun at Madird, with news of Ronaldo’s £80m deal coming in the same week that Perez agreed a £59m deal ($97m or €69m) to sign Kaka. Which means in less than a week, Madrid have committed to spending an incredible £139m ($228m or €162.9m) on just two players.
